![]() ![]() He was at the events 27 & 41 to witness both the male and female record holders achieve their titles last year. I had a lovely chat with Ian about his passion for running since the 1960’s and was incredibly impressed with his stats of completing over 100 park runs, usually here at South Norwood. Thanks to our time keepers: Michael and Andy and to Ian our tail walker today. Peter our marshal out on the course today doing a great job steering us in the right direction away from those tram tracks and encouragement up that incline! ![]() Julian was our RD today and did a great job- especially handing out those well received chocolates at the finish line to mark the 100 th occasion. They really are a friendly bunch of people. If you would like to volunteer please email of our wonderful volunteers and huge thanks to those who set up the course today: Terry, Laura, and Stuart. That sentiment is true within the parkrun ethos that 5 km is still the same distance whether it is done in 15 minutes or 50 minutes! We are all important! ![]() I greatly enjoyed my role as the timekeeper when I had to rest due to injury as I experienced the excitement of watching the first runners coming through the finishing line as that is something I never usually see on my normal parkrun at the back of the pack! However, as a friend once said to me who races regularly “the one at the back is just as important as the one at the front”. I always like to give the volunteers and marshals out on the courses a nod, wave ,clap or shout out as I pass them by as an acknowledgment of them giving up their time to help out. There are several roles available in which you can still participate in a run, e.g., pre-event set up or the tail walker. Volunteers are always needed and welcomed with open arms especially by Laura the volunteer co-ordinator at South Norwood and without their dedication and commitment parkrun would not be possible. This is my 29 th parkrun, my 10 th time running at South Norwood and my 7 th time as a volunteer here but my 1 st role as a report writer! ![]()
